Are you looking to step up or step over to the role of Line Producer in High End Television? ScreenSkills HETV Line Producer Programme 2025 is a free intensive training scheme to help you on your way.

 

The in-depth course, led by experienced crew, is aimed at Production Managers, Location Managers and First ADs looking for the next move as production levels are expected to increase in 2025.

 

The programme is funded by the ScreenSkills Film and High-end Television Skills Funds made up of contributions from high-end television productions and films made in the UK.

 

The course is delivered fully online and is designed to fit in with busy working schedules.

 

What does the training offer?

 

Intensive Zoom-based training with a range of guest speakers and trainers including;

   Steve Clark-Hall (Producer, Avenue 5, The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself)

   Katie Player (Line Producer, The Diplomat)

   Neil Cairns (Financial Controller, Bridgerton)

   Samantha Jukes-Adams (Senior leadership and management coach & former Head of Production)

   Plus more Producers and Line Producers to be announced 

 

Rosie Dias (Production Coordinator, The Baby) will be course coordinator.

 

Who is the training aimed at?

 

ScreenSkills supports current and future generations of talent to flourish in the screen industries. We are committed to embedding diversity in all its forms, including geographic representation, in the workforce we help to build.

 

ScreenSkills Line Producer Programme 2025 has 40 spaces, and successful applicants will be drawn from:

 

    HETV Productions Managers (Scripted only)

    Location Managers

    1st ADs

    Other experienced crew ready to make the move.

 

 

There are 20 spaces for Production Managers and 20 spaces for Assistant Directors and Location Managers looking to move over.  

 

To be considered for a place on the course you must be nominated by a Producer, Exec or Line Producer working in the industry, who will also need to supply a reference.

 

What is covered in the training?

 

There will be five phases to this course. All phases are taught over Zoom to accommodate a nationwide audience.

 

1.    Bridge Course

Firstly, a two-day course solely for those attendees who are Assistant Directors and Location Managers to guide them through key areas of the production office before they embark on the core training. PMs are also welcome, but it’s not mandatory for anyone with a production office background to attend.

 

January 2025

The Bridge Course sessions will take place on two consecutive Saturdays. They will cover:

 

·       The CAN/casting

·       Running a production team (dynamics, duties and delegation).

·       Clearances

·       Booking and on-boarding crew, payroll, working with accounts, cost reporting.

·       Insurance

·       Child Licences/chaperones/tutors/working hours etc.

 

2. Core Sessions

The ADs and Location Managers will then merge with the Production Managers for the main part of the course.

 

Over eight Saturdays from February to May, the sessions will cover all a Line Producer’s responsibilities and will include:

 

    Setting up a production

    Working with above-the-line talent/agents

    Recruiting fairly and effectively

    Pact/Bectu agreement

    Legal requirements

    Scheduling

    Budgeting

    Working alongside financial controllers

    Working with Producers and Directors to meet the creative vision.

    Working with streamers/production companies

    Dealing with co-productions

    Training in Movie Magic

    Leadership and management skills with coach Samantha Jukes-Adams

    Working internationally

    Post production

 

3.    Q&As

There will be a series of additional Q&A talks. Previously, these have covered:

·       HoP/Producer/Prod Co.

·       Business and legal affairs

·       Insurance

·       VFX/SFX

·       Working with Agents

·       Working with Accountants/Financial controllers on large scale projects

·       HR, accessibility, job sharing

 

Previous guest speakers include: Emma Pike, Lee Morris, Simon Maloney, James Grant, Sara Johnson, Michelle Reynolds, Ellen Lister, Rosa Romero, Robert Stone. (These names are guide only, We cannot guarantee the same speakers will be available to return).

 

4.    Mentor call

Attendees will also be offered a 1:1 mentoring call with an experienced Line Producer in their area. [1] 

 

5.    Networking

Finally, in June 2025, there will be a networking event held in Central London, with Production Companies, Producers and Heads of Production. All attendees will be invited. You can apply for a contribution towards your travel and accommodation costs if you are travelling from outside of London.

09:30 to 14:30 over Zoom

·       Day 1: Saturday 1 February 2025

·       Day 2: Saturday 15 February

·       Day 3: Saturday 1 March

·       Day 4: Saturday 15 March

·       Day 5: Saturday 29 March

·       Day 6: Saturday 5 April

·       Day 7: Saturday 26 April

·       Day 8: Saturday 10 May

 

Q&A’s will take place on weeknights throughout the core training period.

 

Networking Event: EITHER Thursday 19 or Thursday 26 June 2025 in Central London.
