New Entrant Training specialists, from First Break to Warner Bros’ CrewHQ Trainee Programme, the BFI’s Industry Ready Days and Screenskills’ Film Trainee Finder.
Since 2016, we’ve trained thousands of new entrants across a wide range of courses and programmes.
We led the induction weekends for Screenskills’ flagship Film Trainee Finder, and run key workshops for the gold-standard CrewHQ Trainee Programme. We’ve also delivered training for school children with Into Film, university students through the BFI’s industry-ready programme, and young people not in education, employment or training through Screenskills’ First Break Programme and The Film Office, working with young people in Tower Hamlets and Newham.
Our sessions include interactive games, hands-on tasks, and the vital, non-negotiable information young people need about how the industry works — freelancing, finances, set etiquette and more.
CrewHQ Trainee Programme
We’ve worked with CrewHQ since its launch in November 2023. Based at the heart of Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, CrewHQ creates bespoke training courses for crew of all levels working at the studios.
For the last three years, we’ve led sessions on the CrewHQ trainee programme covering assessment day introductions, industry introductions, CVs, cover emails, interview technique and looking for work — including travelling to Belfast for a bespoke course with trainees on series one of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
Our work forms part of a wider training induction led by Jackie Campbell. Trainees have gone on to work on productions including The Batman 2, Harry Potter and House of the Dragon. In one 2025 wrap-up session, we were joined by a surprise guest — Pam Abdy, Co-Chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group — who dropped in to answer questions from the trainees.

ScreenSkills Film Trainee Finder
thecallsheet.co.uk managed the induction weekends for the flagship Screenskills Film Trainee Finder programme for seven years, from 2017 to 2024.
Each cohort included around 100 trainees a year, working across eleven different departments. Inductions ran over three days, with Oscar, BAFTA and Emmy-winning talent brought in each year to speak with trainees in small groups.
When we took over in 2017, only one former trainee returned to speak. Since then, we’ve fostered a culture where former trainees from every department come back to speak each year.
In 2025, we stepped back from delivery, as budgets shrank and the cohort size tripled.
BFI Industry Ready Training
Since 2022, thecallsheet.co.uk has worked with the BFI to deliver Industry-Ready Training for university students, as part of their offer to educational institutions.
Working alongside trainers Amie Tridgell and Jude Winstanley, our compact one-day course covers an overview of the industry, CVs, cover emails, looking for work, freelancing, finances and set etiquette — designed as a primer for second and third-year undergraduates preparing for their careers.
We’ve delivered this for Birmingham City University, Durham, Middlesex, Northumbria, UCA, UCL and Brunel.
First Break
Screenskills’ First Break is a High-End TV Skills Fund pre-new-entrant inclusivity programme, designed to demystify entry into the TV industry for people who might otherwise never consider it as a career path.
thecallsheet.co.uk has delivered First Break for three London-based productions. Typically, a cohort of around 40 participants is led through interactive sessions covering the industry, its jargon, working hours, call sheets, movement orders and rates. We also run an interactive radio session, where participants get hands-on with industry-standard walkie talkies.
Some participants go on to interview for jobs, get work experience, or work dailies on productions. First Break runs at several locations across the UK (visit the Screenskills page for details); our own sessions have been delivered specifically for Black Doves (Netflix), Unforgotten (ITV), and most recently War (Sky/HBO) — where cast member David Harewood OBE dropped in to answer questions from participants.
The Film Office
The Film Office manages private and public location filming in Newham and Lewisham. As part of their work with the councils, they run regular On Location training days, working with residents not in education, employment or training to give them an insight into working in film and TV production. Attendees who complete the training get the opportunity to interview for paid work on productions filming in Newham and Lewisham.
On Location training days are delivered by our brilliant colleagues Amie Tridgell (pictured) and Jude Winstanley. Alongside practical, interactive training, each participant receives a bespoke 46-page handbook, written by Matt Gallagher, Amie Tridgell and Jude Winstanley.
Previous attendees have gone on to paid work on shows including Slow Horses (Apple TV), Criminal Record (Apple TV) and Supacell (Netflix). For more information on upcoming training courses, follow The Film Office.
