| About | In lockdown, March 2020, we were tasked with designing a brand new course to address an urgent skills shortage area. During COVID, we planned a course to entice those with financial backgrounds to come and work in HETV. |
Background to the course
Most people working in finance were full time employees, on good salaries with good working hours. We had to find, encourage and train people with financial backgrounds into becoming freelance and working more hours, but on rewarding projects.
With production accounts the priority and focus for the training, led by Neil Cairns, we supported the cohorts with talks and training about the industry itself, freelancing, CVs. We found many placements for them and had returning cohort back to mentor the new crop.
We designed and implemented the first two editions of this course, bringing over dozens of new, highly skilled people into the industry who had never worked in the screen industries before. In 2023, a different company were commissioned by Screenskills to run the course, but with limited engagement and few transferers, we were selected to run the 2024 edition.
We are very proud to say that several of our cohort became production accountants very quickly and went on to attend our Advanced Training for Production Accountants Course in 2026.
