Exit Interviews
Very few productions conduct exit interviews. So much learning is lost the moment a crew wraps.
In 2025, we carried out exit interviews on two separate Band 3 HETV projects (under NDA). We spoke with 15 crew members on each production, from different departments and grades, shortly after they wrapped. Production companies emailed crew to let them know we might be in touch, and our team chose who to speak with. All responses were treated anonymously, and we took painstaking steps to ensure no crew member could be identified in the final report.
Our researchers are experienced industry people, and quickly earned the trust of participating crew. Using a structured questioning framework, we uncovered real-world experiences crew didn’t feel comfortable sharing with their departments, HR, an online survey, or the production companies themselves — often for fear of not being considered for future work if they spoke up.
Through our exit interviews, crew had a voice we could convey back to the production company, helping them improve on the next production and avoid repeating the same mistakes. Following the reports, production companies were made aware of issues that hadn’t crossed their radar during prep or the shoot, and are actively implementing the advice we provided.
